BMW Team Schnitzer is returning
to the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

BMW and Schnitzer – these names will be forever linked in motorsport, and have achieved great successes together: touring car world champions, winners at Le Mans, and the triple DTM title in 2012. There were also five triumphs at the classic 24-hour races in Spa and at the Nürburgring. This very experienced team has displayed durability often enough in endurance racing.

The Schnitzer team is looking to build on these successes in 2017. After four years in the DTM, the team from Freilassing is returning to GT racing. From now on, they will be racing with the BMW M6 GT3 instead of the BMW M4 DTM. What better way could there be to celebrate the return to sports cars than by racing in the “green hell”? The 24-hour race on the Nürburgring at the end of May provides the ideal stage for a return to GT racing. Schnitzer Motorsport has recorded a total of five wins, making the team one of the most successful at the Eifel marathon.

The BMW Team Schnitzer driver line-up for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring has not yet been confirmed, but BMW Motorsport has already registered 21 top drivers for the three teams in competition, taken from endurance racing and the DTM. The precise assignments will be made at a later point in time.

A well-known name with winning in the blood:
The BMW M6 GT3.

Since the start of the 2016 season, BMW’s new GT sports car has been the BMW M6 GT3 - a car that proved that it has winning in the blood during its debut season. This car helped BMW to victory at the classic 24-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps, claiming a 23rd overall win at the roller-coaster of a circuit in the Ardennes hills in Belgium. At the Nürburgring 24-hour race, the BMW M6 GT3 started from the front row of the grid, led the race for a while and was in podium contention for a long time. In the end, it finished as “best of the rest” in fifth place, behind the victorious Mercedes.

The production version of the BMW M6 Coupé provided BMW Motorsport with the perfect starting point for the year of development that went into the M6 GT3 race car, which made the most of the extensive experience gathered by BMW Motorsport from the car's predecessors. It boasts many improvements, particularly when it comes to driveability and economy. The car is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, which has been modified for use in motor racing. The power train has dry sump lubrication and generates up to 585 HP, and is being used with hardly any changes. Further technical characteristics of the BMW M6 GT3 are the transaxle drive concept, six-speed sequential racing transmission, and high-performance motorsport electronics. The aerodynamic properties of the chassis have been optimised in the BMW wind tunnel.
