/ 2013: Year one
after the triumph

Spengler and BMW Team Schnitzer
defend their titles.

BMW Team Schnitzer entered its second DTM season since its successful return to the series as defending champions in the Team competition. DTM champion Bruno Spengler was again joined by Dirk Werner as the second driver in the team – however, with a new BMW Motorsport Premium Partner. Werner lined up in a BMW M3 DTM sporting an exclusive Samsung livery.

The season kicked off with an impressive display in Hockenheim from Werner, who fought back brilliantly from 20th on the grid to finish runner-up and claim his maiden podium in the DTM. The highlight was race three in Spielberg: Spengler won his first race of the season, spearheading a historic one-two-three for BMW Motorsport. At this point of the season, the reigning champion was once again sitting pretty at the top of the Drivers’ Championship.

However, luck deserted Spengler in a number of races in the second half of the season, and he eventually had to settle for third place in the Drivers’ Championship. BMW Team Schnitzer finished fourth in the Team competition.

A change of colour
for number two.

BMW Motorsport fielded eight BMW M3 DTMs instead of six in its second season. The strict technical regulations in the DTM meant that few modifications were made to the car – and it continued to be successful. As in 2012, the car won five of the ten races in 2013 and allowed BMW to successfully defend its title in the Manufacturers’ Championship.
